Cultural load: The extra work asked of First Nation employees

After another NAIDOC Week, comes the opportunity to reflect on what workplaces often ask of First Nations employees. Cultural load is the often invisible extra work placed on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to provide cultural knowledge, education and support. For example, being asked to do a Welcome to Country, a presentation about their culture, or offer advice from a First Nations perspective... All without the reduction of their usual workload, or being offered additional support.
